    Summary

    Description
English: Map detailing sex reassignment surgery (SRS) requirements each state has. Sources are Lambda Legal and Dr. Becky Allison's Instructions for Changing Name and Sex on Birth Certificate.

State does not alter sex on birth certificates for transsexuals2

1Some Texas officials have refused to amend the sex on birth certificates to reflect a sex change after the ruling Littleton v. Prange; however, a judge can order an amendment.

2In American Samoa, "the Office of Vital Statistics . . . may change the gender marker on a birth certificate with medical documentation of the change in sex."

3Michigan requires a medical affidavit signed by a physician stating that the applicant has had "appropriate surgical procedures completed for gender transition to the new gender"

4From May 2013 to March 2017 Missouri allowed, through court order via CASE 13AR-CV00240, a quiet workaround of Mo. Ann. Stat. § 193.215(9). The workaround from the original petitioning case has been reversed by mandate of the several courts and Missouri now requires sexual reassignment surgery to change gender.
