==词源==

英语中，“neutral”这个词来自中古法语的''neutral''（相较于现代法语 ''neutre''），而其来自拉丁语的 ''neutralis''。在战争与争端中，中立可以表示在冲突中不选择其中任何一方，而是无阵营或无偏袒的。在色彩中，中性指灰色或者没有明显的颜色。在物理学中，中性可以指既不带正电荷也不带负电荷。在生物学中，中性可以表示[[neuter|neuter]]，指没有身体性征。在语法中，可以表示既非阳性也非阴性的词汇，也叫做neuter或者[[epicene|epicene]]。性别中立可以表示适用于或可用于所有性别，或者不受性别限制。
