En 2017, aux Etats-Unis, l'Etat de Californie a passé 2017 Gender Recognition Act (la loi de 2017 sur la reconnaissance du genre) "pour permettre que les personnes intersexes, transgenre, et non-binaires ait la possibilité de changer leur genre légal et d'obtenir un certificat de reconnaissance de genre (gender recognition ) ."[1][2]
