Jens Andersson

Jens Andersson (born as Marie Andersdotter in the middle of the 18th century in Gran, Norway) was a nonbinary person who came to Strømsø, Norway, in 1778, presenting as male, and married Anne Kristine Mortensdotter there in 1781.[1]

It was soon discovered that Andersson had a female body, and the marriage was annulled, while Andersson was accused of sodomy. In the trial, Andersson was asked: "Are you a man or a woman?" It was recorded that the answer was that "Hand troer at kunde henhøre til begge Deele" ("he thinks he may be both").

Andersson managed to escape from prison; nothing is known about the person's further life.
