A union is "a number of persons, states, etc., joined or associated together for some common purpose". Unions are organizations made up of a group of people(s) who share a collective identity and work to advocate for the needs of that identity. An example of this not related to gender is the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Union, which is made up of and advocates for industrial workers.
There have been unions derived of those of a certain gender such as the Coalition of Labor Union Women (USA) and the Vietnam Women's Union (Vietnam) have directly advocated for the rights of women as a collective.
