Alcune persone nonbinary possono scegliere o sentire la necessità di mostrare un'accozzaglia di indicatori di genere che sono incongruenti, complicate o scioccanti per chi si aspetta che tutti siano conformi al binarismo di genere. Per esempio, combinare una barba al trucco e ad un reggiseno imbottito. Questa pratica di trasgredire volontariamente alle regole della presentazione di genere è anche conosciuta come "genderfuck", "genderfucking" e a volte "genderpunk".
