Um inquérito dirigido em 1999 pelo Departamento de Saúde Pública de São Francisco verificou que, dentro da comunidade transgénero, menos de 3% dos participantes que foram classificados homens ao nascimento e menos de 8% dos que foram classificados mulheres ao nascimento se identificavam como bigénero.
