Stud is a term used to describe Black masculine presenting lesbians. The term is considered to be coined in the 1960’s during the LGBTQ+ rights movement. In recent decades, non-black masculine presenting lesbians have used it as an identifier, but historically it belongs to the black community only. Many studs fall under the non-binary umbrella, while many still identify with womanhood or femininity.
