Chris Paige is a writer, advocate, and religious organizer. They are one of the cofounders of the website/organization TransFaith.
In 1998 Paige created/received the word "OtherWise" on a mountaintop during an LGBT spiritual retreat in Pennsylvania, as the word nonbinary did not yet exist.[3] They define OtherWise as:
« | any gender identity or expression that transcends the simplistic Western settler-colonist narrative of two and only two mutually exclusive and unchangeable genders, defined strictly and easily based on biology at birth.[4] | » |
