The European society is, in general, very binarist. However, there are a lot of cultures that, traditionally, have had more than two genders. These are some non-binary genders recognised in other cultures:

    • Bissu, calabai, and calalai (Bugis society, Indonesia)
    • Hijra (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh)
    • Muxe (Zapotec culture, Mexico)
    • Two-spirit (Native American cultures)
