    Nex Benedict (January 11, 2008 - February 8, 2024) was a nonbinary adolescent who died at age 16 the day after a group of students picked a fight with them in their school bathroom.[1]

    Nex, who used they/them pronouns, was a student at Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma. Nex's grandmother, Sue, reports that Nex "was a straight-A student who enjoyed drawing, loved to read, played the video games Ark and Minecraft and loved their cat Zeus."[2]

    On 21 February 2024, Owasso police stated that Nex "did not die as a result of trauma".[2] Regardless of how accurate that is, Nex's death has brought additional media attention to the subject of trans youth being mistreated at school, as well as attention to anti-trans legislation being introduced and passed across the country.[3]
