Sonny Oram is a web designer and queer fashion activist. They are best known as the founder of Qwear, a news and community website focused on LGBTQ+ fashion. In 2015, the fashion website DapperQ named them "dapperQ of the Year".[2]
Sonny came out as gay at 16, and came out as genderfluid a bit later. They were bullied harshly for their gender, and recloseted themself as only gay once in college. After graduating college, Sonny started a tumblr blog titled "Dyke Duds", which would eventually become Qwear.[3] Sonny came out again as trans and nonbinary around 2013 and had top surgery in 2014.[4]
Sonny met their partner Rupi in 2014, who later became Qwear's Fashion Director and eventually co-owner.[5]
In 2019, Sonny founded Qwear Media, an LGBTQ+ media talent database and agency with the goal of raising LGBTQ+ representation in advertising.
