Alterhuman is an opt-in umbrella term to describe people whose lived experience and identity is something other than what is typically considered "human", or who have a "non-standard relationship with their humanity".[1] Some identities that can fall under the alterhuman umbrella include otherkin, fictionkin, therians, plural systems, transhumanists and more.[2]
Alterhumans often find that they have a nonbinary, xenogender, and/or genderqueer experience of gender.
The term was coined in 2014 by tumblr user phasmovore.
