Alterhuman is an opt-in umbrella term to describe people whose lived experience and identity is something other than what is typically considered "human". Some identities that can fall under the alterhuman umbrella include otherkin, fictionkin, therians, plural systems, and more. Alterhumans often find that they have a nonbinary, xenogender, and/or genderqueer experience of gender.

The term was coined in 2014 by tumblr user phasmovore.
