International Pronouns Day is an annual event that seeks to make sharing and respecting people's pronouns commonplace. It takes place each year on the third Wednesday of October. The first iteration was on October 17, 2018, and there were participants from 25 countries in every continent except Antarctica. The event was founded by Shige Sakurai with assistance from Genny Beemyn.[1]

Gender pronouns are far from new. We use them on a regular basis to both identify and refer to somebody. Describing somebody as 'he' or 'she', groups of 'they' or 'them' alongside referring to inanimate things as 'it' is something many will be very familiar with, but this is only really the beginning of an even more complex language, understanding and acceptance.
