Login problems

Deleting Template:Content_warning

@Falkirks: I think I will replace all templates using {{ambox}} or {{mbox}} for {{notice}} when the cache updates. I didn't think about that. Glossary of Russian gender and sex terminology

Glad to know you liked my edit of the Russian glossary, because I myself had second thoughts afterwards, when I looked through the other glossaries with non-Latin scripts. Should we rearrange all of them? I could definitely do it for Chinese for example, listing the entries by the radicals and stroke numbers of the first character(s), in the way they would be in a Chinese dictionary. But does that make a lot of sense in a wiki that is basically in English? Wolle (talk) 18:10, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

@Wolle: in the case of Rusian, maybe the headings could be <Cyrillic character> - <Latin transcription>. I don't think this is possible with Chinese though, since it doesn't use an alphabet. Since we also give the transcription, I think it would be good to offer ordering based on both the original Chinese writing and the Latin transcription. By the way, do you know if the glossary uses Mandarin or Cantonese? --NeoMahler (talk) 19:28, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Have a look at the Russian page. Do you think this is good now? For Chinese, my knowledge of Mandarin is pretty basic and that of Cantonese non-existant, but the Pinyin transcriptions given clearly look Mandarin, "他" is Mandarin, but not Cantonese. So, I can't guarantee that there is no Cantonese mixed in at all, but it all looks very Mandarin to me. BTW, there is an inconsistency: Sometimes the simplified spelling (Mainland China, Singapore) is given first ("酷儿; 酷兒"), sometimes it's the traditional one (Taiwan, Hong Kong, China towns all over the world) ("雙靈; 双灵"). Of course, this can be a neat way not to take sides... Wolle (talk) 22:35, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

@Wolle: the Russian page is good, thanks! I think we should be consistent, placing the traditional spelling before the simplified one (or viceversa) doesn't seem disrespectful to me. Thanks for pointing that out too! Maybe it could be formatted as a table: it not only helps to separate traditional from simplified spelling, but it also automatically sorts in alphabetical order taking Latin as a reference (but only if the user clicks the small arrow next to the column title). I don't know how the automatic sorting works for Chinese characters, though. Do you think this would be better? --NeoMahler (talk) 14:26, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

I've rearranged the Chinese list in the following order: "Simplified Chinese; Traditional Chinese (Pinyin transcription) English" (even for the cases where there is no difference between simplified and traditional). I don't know how to format a table with automatic sorting, but if you do, you will be able to do it with this uniform sequence. Once there is a table, we can test how it sorts the Chinese entries. Bordergender

You said the flag had a license that allows anyone to upload it. Tell me how it got that license. I did not upload it to the old wiki or to deviantart. I designed the flag and it is not free to use. Take it down. Design another one if you want, I don't care. Redefine the term without using my wording and do not use my flag design. This is very simple. Respect that you are using my content without my permission and I wish it to be taken down.

@Izayaorihahaha: We imported the flag (and most of the other pride flags too) from the "Pride Flags" DeviantArt account. As you can see in the Bordergender (1) page, they say All designs in this gallery are HQ and are free to use for anything pride-related! Their FAQ states Q2: Can I use _____ flag? A2: Absolutely! All of our flags are free for everyone to use. Nobody owns them (sometimes we didn’t even create them), and credit is appreciated but not necessary. They don't specify a license, but this description makes it compatible with CC-BY-SA 4.0, which is the one we use here. Additionally, the description of the identity can be re-used under the terms of fair use, since we are an educational resource.

However, I have re-written the description text (even though we are not required to). As for the flags, I'm afraid I can't take it down. I don't know how your flags ended up being free-to-use, but they are. If we ever find another flag design for this identity, we can replace it, but until then, the flag stays. --Ondo (talk) 09:40, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

@Ondo: "I don't know how your flags ended up being free-to-use" Theft. Theft is how. I never gave anyone the right to repost my design. How hard is it for you or someone involved with this wiki to design a flag in windows paint?

You either condone art theft and misattribution, or you take the flag down until a new one is designed, it's very simple.

"It's legal to use" for whatever reason does not make it right. Please respect my wishes and just take it down. All you're doing here is showing me how little you care about lgbt artists/designers. I don't care to explain my reasoning, and I shouldn't have to. I appreciate you rewriting the description and am taking your word that you did on good faith because I'd rather not read it. Please just take the flag down and give me that peace of mind.

@Izayaorihahaha: we don't condone art theft, that's why we have a clear license and a content policy. If you consider that your original art was stolen, that's fine and I sympathise with you. The course of action, however, should be contacting with the DeviantArt user that actually uploaded your content and gave free-to-use permission to everyone. When they take it down, we will do the same in accordance to our license. Taking it down here but keeping it in DeviantArt would accomplish nothing, since anyone could re-upload it again (here or anywhere else on the Internet) without restrictions. --Ondo (talk) 10:07, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

@Izayaorihahaha: As a heads up, I have removed your flag "bordergender1" from my collection of pride flags which is what the flags on the wiki are taken from. This doesn't change what is on the wiki of course, but it means I won't reuse it in further projects. I do very much disagree with your rationale about the identity, but the flag is your own. Spambots

Looks like this wiki is overrun with bots, and too few admins to combat them. I know this is an unsolicited offer, but I hate capchas and I have experience in technical support for wikis, so can this be a win-win? I have OCD and captchas tick off my OCD, and I know a thing or two or three about combating vandals and spambots.--Oxyaena (talk) 12:45, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

Edit filters can help with the spambots and even vandals, but I've noticed this wiki lacks even a basic, proper references template, so that's definitely one of the things on my priority list. Oxyaena (talk) 12:57, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

@Oxyaena: thanks for the offer. We do get multiple spambots creating accounts every day, but their edits never make it past the abuse filter. I could count with the fingers of a single hand the times a spambot has managed to actually create spam pages (and we've always been quick to answer, thanks to the real-time #wikifeed channel in the Discord server). Edits that get through the filters are generally anonymous human vandals, but they don't come very often, so they don't present a problem currently.
