Stud is a term used to describe Black masculine presenting lesbians. The term is considered to be coined in the 1960’s during the LGBTQ+ rights movement. In recent decades, non-Black masculine presenting lesbians have used it as an identifier, but historically it belongs to the Black community only. Many studs fall under the nonbinary umbrella, while many still identify with womanhood or femininity.
