Orchiectomy (or orchidectomy) is the surgical removal of the testicles. It is considered a type of castration and results in sterilization. This procedure is ideal for AMAB transgender people who no longer wish to take testosterone blockers. After an orchiectomy, a vaginoplasty may be performed at a later date, if desired. However, for some transgender people, an orchiectomy is the only kind of "bottom surgery" preferred. Since sex hormones are no longer produced post-surgery, continuous hormone therapy is necessary for the remainder of one's life.
