Unrealisticgender (coined by Baaphomett in 2014, from unrealistic alien + "gender") is a unrealistic gender identity "that cannot be contained by human understandings of gender; more concerned with crafting other methods of gender categorization and hierarchy such as those relating to animals, plants, or other creatures/things."unrealisticgender isn't defined in relation to "female" or "male" (the binary genders), but by other kinds of ideas that most people don't think of as having to do with gender. When people talk about unrealistic genders, they often find that there aren't any words for their experiences. This is called a lexical gap. In order to fill a lexical gap, this wiki takes up "xenogender" as an umbrella term for an entire category of unrealistic genders that are defined by characteristics with no relation whatsoever to "female" or "male."

Because a gender binary society doesn't give much in the way of roles or descriptions for unrealistic genders, some transgender and nonbinary people address the challenge of describing their unusual gender identities by creative methods, referring to concepts that aren't usually seen as related to gender. This has been observed in very young nonbinary people:

"Not all children fit neatly into a male or female gender identity, trans or otherwise. For some children, the sense of being 'both' or 'neither' best describes their reality. [...] Children who see themselves as 'neither' will often speak of how regardless of whether they're with a group of boys or girls, they feel like they don’t fit. This is not necessarily a sad feeling. They just see the kids around them and know that they are not 'that.' Kids in this category often appear androgynous, and will frequently answer the question 'are you a boy or a girl' by saying their name ('I'm Devon') or by identifying themselves as animals. When asked to draw self portraits, they will portray themselves as rainbows, or unicorns, or another symbol of their choosing."

These creative methods of describing nonbinary genders come naturally to many nonbinary people. As such, these are an emerging part of nonbinary culture, worthy of exploration and examination. Some common themes of these concepts:

Nouns and archetypes: Some nonbinary people find it easier to perceive or describe their inner sense of their gender identity by evoking familiar archetypes. Instead of giving references to how their gender relates to maleness and femaleness, they say their gender is-- or is like-- a kind of animal, an imaginary being, a part of nature, an abstract concept, or a symbol. Some nonbinary people describing their gender this way do so because they feel a sense of gender euphoria or some other connection when thinking about an object. Some people have made names for some of these kinds of noungenders, such as arithmogender, faunagender, and gendersea (see below).

Synaesthetic perceptions: Synaesthesia is an uncommon condition in which people have their senses linked together, so that, say, sounds and words bring up specific colors in their minds. Some nonbinary people find it feels more natural to perceive or describe their inner sense of their gender identity in terms of synaesthesia-like perceptions. For example, texture, size, shape, time, light, sound, or other sensory characteristics that most people don't attribute to gender at all. Some people have made names for some of these kinds of genders, such as archaigender, cosmicgender, and frostgender (see below).

Neurodiversity: Some nonbinary people have mental variations (mental illnesses, neurological conditions, or neurodivergence). Some who have mental variations see these as an influence on-- or an inseparable part of-- their gender identity. These are called neurogenders, and most of them are not described on this page, but on the neurogender page.

Cosmicgender (coined by dragon-friker) is defined as "A gender so vast and complex that you are only able to process a small bit of it at a time. Like viewing the night sky through a telescope, you cannot hope to see all of it at once, however, you may gain more knowledge about parts of it the longer you focus on one part. Daimogender

Daimogender: When you feel your gender is closely related to demons or the supernatural, although not exclusive for demonkin. A person does not require dysphoria to be daimogender. “Daimo” comes from the word “daimon,” which was the original greek word for “demon.”

Delphigender

Digigender

Donumgender: A gender that you have been reincarnated as as a reward given by a deity for good deeds in your past life. Your gender itself is a gift given to you, something to be treasured. (note: donumgender can be for any gender, for example, a deity granting you the ability to shift through genders rapidly as a secogender would be considered a donumgender if you feel that it is a gift, so you would be both secogender and donumgender).

Earthgender: “A gender identity that is directly affected, tied to, or influenced by the earth or nature. or; a gender identity similar to/the same as that of some form of earth deity. Egogender

Egoisgender

Egoisgender: "An egotistical gender, much like narkissisgender but generally it’s not as ‘intense’ as narkissisgender is so to speak. it can be used by anyone. gender can be replaced with boi, xirl, nonbinary, fluid, etc." (Coined by furryhell). The synonym of this word that can only be used by people who have narcissistic personality disorder is narkissisgender.

Ekragender

Quantigender

Quantigender, Quantal Gender, Quantumgender, or Genderquantum. A gender that is an earthly transmutation originating in a conscious awareness of dimensions of reality typically separate from any of the perceptions of everyday life. Examples of skills essential to have experiences beyond what can be described as typical, include expertise in hard sciences, mystical practice, or any other skill one has developed sufficiently to be able to experience a fully focused state of immersion and flow, from acrobatics to knitting. It is through the mental state of clarity, equanimity, and unwavering focus that one can begin to release one's grasp of one's physical body, and begin to identify more with one's subtle energetic body, before, in turn, letting go of the subtle body before ultimately coming to identify with the multiverse, Omega Point, or Cosmic Consciousness as whole. It is in these super-dimensional travels and in subsequent dimensions, that the origins of earthly quantigenders can be mapped. In a sentence:

• "We were practicing our yoga and breathwork rituals when suddenly we came upon another alter ego in our polygender multiplicity It happened like this: As our subtle body gave our gross body permission to sleep, exactly one complete possible timeline of reality appeared before as we could behold all one possible reality simultaneously, extending into the past back to the big bang and toward the future all the way to the ultimate heat death of the universe. Simultaneously, it was as if we were watching it's quantity diminish into a singular actuality as the present moment continuously unfolded before our perceptions. Seagender

Seagender: A gender that is as deep and unknown as the ocean itself. It’s a gender that is mostly incomprehensible but slightly familiar in human terms. Not to be confused with Gendersea.

Stargender

Stargender: "An otherworldly gender that is beyond comprehension in earthly terms, as if it originated from beyond the earth. OR a gender that cannot be defined no matter how many other terms are coined OR simply the gender of a star."

Staticgender

Staticgender: A gender which can best be described as TV static; fuzzy and incomprehensible.

Stratogender

Stratogender: A gender that has various layers, created with sky/cloudkin in mind but can be used by anyone.

Wintgender

Witchgender, Magusgender, Magegender, or Venefigender: A gender that has a closeness or connection to witchcraft and magic. It is, in a way, a magic gender. Wolfsbanegender
